X-Ray is a transparent effects plug-in for Autodesk 3ds Max. It works mainly through the use of a variety of materials. Most effects use sub-materials to perform the shading, so it’s compatible with the standard materials, and materials found in a third-party raytracer
X-Ray includes some powerful materials, and they all extend X-Ray’s ability to see through objects in your scene. X-Ray Transparent will render a different material when seen through a transparent object. X-Ray Reflection will render a different material when seen through a reflection. X-Ray Lights allow you to create special effects using materials that respond to scene illumination.

It will popup in the video post progress window automatically.
“If you have every wanted to Glow an object from behind a transparent material, then this image filter will solve all your frustrating problems.” X-Ray Glow allows you to define new special effects channels for objects covered by a transparent object. It’s simple to use, and completely user definable. You can change the effect channel based upon a condition of what objects are in front.
“This image filter will allow you to create lens flare effects from behind a transparent material, while using your favorite animatible lens flare package, LenzFX” X-Ray Flare allows the placement of lens flare’s behind a transparent object. The effect is controlled by an Track View controller, so you can bind the opacity control to any parameter of the flare. Render different Streak intensities, or even change the size of the glow. It’s so simple to control, just assigning the controller to the intensity parameter will be enough to flicker the flare.
“Create amazing special effects with your materials from behind transparent objects.” X-Ray Transparent allows you to create materials that change depending upon what transparent objects pass in front of them. Only the covered area of the object is modified, and if there are no foreground objects then the default material is used.
“Create amazing special effects with your materials when seen through a reflection / refraction.” X-Ray Reflection/Refraction will render a different material if it is seen through a reflection, or it will use a normal material is it’s seen through the camera. You can also assign X-Ray Transparent as a normal material giving you a different material based upon transparency and reflection at the same time.
“Build material special effect channels for processing by your favorite image filter, with out effecting the original material used to color the object.” X-Ray Mask allows you to use a texturemap to define where on an object the Material Effect should be shown. It gives you the same ability as “clamping to a color”, but now you can have that functionality in image filters that doesn’t provide it.
“Create special effects for your materials based upon different lighting condisions in your scene. ” X-Ray Lights allows you to assign different materials to an object that are controlled by special lights in your scene
